How do I go about learning French?

Hey, I'd really like to start learning French. I haven't very much money at all to be investing in this endeavour, only my willingness to spend time on it. Free options would be ideal, but if there are any low cost options available, preferably not on the internet, that you can recommend to me (eg, a particular book, DVD etc), that'd be great. Thanks.
