I have a low heart rate and have to have surgery is it ok?

Im set to have surgery this Friday for gall bladder removal.. The Dr. mentioned he was concerned with my heart rate being so low (in the 50s) ... Should I be worried about that? He said he might have to do an EKG on the day of the surgery to be safe.. What does this mean?
