Were you shy as a kid? If so, how did you overthrow your shyness/move into the world once you became an adult?

I've made great progress overcoming shyness... Going to interviews and asking for job applications though, is still very nerve-racking, can't say I look forward to doing it on regular basis once I start trying to land an apprenticeship. Even talking to cashiers can make me hesitate while I try to gather up the courage to talk to them. Must say I envy confident people who can go up and talk without a doubt in the world (seemingly).
