Why do Catholics follow men when Jesus obviously didn't? Aren't they suppose to be Christians?

A Catholic in my office goes to Church every day to confess his sins to a man that sins daily, why? Doesn't the Bible say that we all must answer to God for oneself? Do he think that God will ALWAYS forgive him when he isn't even trying to stop? True we are sinners but to knowingly do something you know God disapproves is just wrong. God stop forgiving the Israelites why not us....we aren't his chosen people. Why are Catholics allowed to pollute their bodies with cigarettes and curse like a sailor all the time? Why do Catholics get so angry when your ask them about their beliefs?
