Smartest features for a house?

I want to have a house built and want the smartest features available. What is the best roofing materials for a house (shingles, metal?)? What is the most efficient heating out there today (baseboard, radiant floor,other?) Are solar panels really worth the cost of upkeep and repair? Any websites that rate home features? It seems there is a lot of crap out there but some really good ideas too.
